73% of of new listener’s plays originate from the Apple Podcasts Search Tab, making it the most popular destination on product for discovery.  With a vast and nuanced catalog, Search serves as an essential guide and tool for listener browsing. Our goal was to create the most seamless path for listeners to push play on a podcast, whether old or new.  

We built on our recently established brand system: leveraging the circular motif from the chiclet, category color organization and finally, introducing a complementary, minimal illustration style. Leading with illustration, a more abstracted visual approach than photography, proved complementary to a non-representional audio medium. Additionally, illustration gave more visual leeway to encompass the variety and breadth of content within each category.

The iOS 18 update included an increase in categories, from 38 to 113, the addition of accompanying icons for each category, and a personalized experience in which listeners can “favorite” categories and create a custom Search page order.
